9 “Things”​ I Wish I Knew About Life When I Was In My Early 20’s!

1. You can eat carbs, sugar and any junk food you wish and still lose body fat

IF you’re in a calorie deficit.

Back in the 90’s, we were told insulin was really bad and if it was raised too much, you’d get fat. This IS NOT true.

2. Comparison really is the thief of joy

I heard it then but never really understood it. I now know, without a shadow of doubt that much of our unhappiness comes from trying to look good or better in the eyes of someone else. Forget everyone else. Focus on you and yours. Remember, people are not necessarily doing better than you, they may be just ahead. And never forget this. YOU have a skill or a talent or a special magic that is unique to you and to you alone. No one can touch you. You are the master in this skill and everyone can only look at you in awe. Find that, work on it, develop it and people will look at you and compare themselves to YOU.

3. Everybody is winging it

Some people are just better at hiding it than others. Everyone is going through life the best they can. Sometimes life is shit, sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s awful. It looks like certain individuals have it all. Be very aware of making that assumption. If someone has a million dollars in the bank, they have million dollar problems. All that glitters is not gold. You DO NOT want anyone else’s life, trust me. Yours is more than enough. Focus on it, water it and watch the grass grow.

4. Set goals

Set big, fucking, hairy audacious goals. Why? Why not? You are far more capable than you think in everything you do. So dream big yes, but take action.

Make a plan, start today. Start with what you have and where you are, right now and whatever you do, don’t pay attention to the people that say “you can’t” – what they are really saying is “I can’t”

5. Having a six pack is fun in your 20’s and 30’s

In your 40’s, getting out of bed without any aches and pains is more fun. In your 50’s, energy is the no 1 currency we should be aspiring to. Without energy, life is pointless. It’s the literally your lifeblood.

6. Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day

And the old adage, “breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and eat dinner like a pauper” is total bullshit. It’s irrelevant when you eat your meals when it comes to fat loss.

Everyone is different and has different preferences. If you like breakfast and it suits your schedule, eat. If not, don’t. Find what works for you and your schedule and if you are trying to lose fat, refer to point no 1. Even if you are not trying to change your body composition, eat when it suits you.

Your life, your preference.

7. Action beats anxiety

Most of our worries and anxiety come from thinking about what you think you should have said and done in the past, and worrying about something that might happen in the future. The past is exactly that. Nothing we can do about that. The future is created by the actions you take today. If you’re worried about something, tackle it head on.

Make a plan and do something towards that plan today, right now. Watch your anxiety subside.

8. Life is far too short for many people

Have fun, take a chance, do the “thing” and never look back, apart from to see how far you’ve come. I’d rather regret the things I did do than the things I didn’t do. Death and taxes are the only two things in life we can’t avoid. Pay your taxes and “memento mori”. It means remember death in Latin.

It’s coming whether you like it or not so live life and remember, tomorrow is promised to no one.

9. If you don’t have time to look after your health & fitness now

You’d better make time for illness & sickness in the future. Your health is worth more than your bank account. Many people spend their whole life accruing money whilst neglecting their health, then wish that all that money can fix their health when it breaks. It can’t and it never will. Work hard, build your business, make all the money you want…but NEVER at the expense of your health. Without your health, you’re dead broke. And then just dead. Sobering thought for some of you, but some of you, unfortunately, won’t understand this until it’s too late.
